We’re thrilled to recognize Marisa Kostiuk, Ph.D., for the Andora Imparo award. She has worn many hats within our internship program: delivering engaging and relevant didactics, offering thoughtful and supportive supervision, and contributing to intern training experiences with unwavering authenticity and warmth. Her dedication and versatility have made a lasting impact on trainees and the program as a whole.

Dr. Tori Knox-Rice presented on engaging and motivational topics during internship wide didactics, integrating multiculturalism into her presentations and expanding upon unique and less often discussed areas in psychology including capacity evaluations. “Capacity to what?” one might ask, and that is exactly the point. As a supervisor, Tori modeled a professional identity offering invaluable support and guidance in the unique and challenging setting of psychosocial oncology. We cannot thank her enough for all her constant support, guidance, and kindness!  

It is with great pleasure that the intern class of 2022-2023 recognizes Dr. Rick Kamins with the Ancora Imparo Award for his exceptional contribution to didactics.

Through his series, Evidence-Based Treatments, Dr. Kamins emphasized both the art and science of psychotherapy to ensure that interventions are rooted in research but adapted and tailored to meet patients where they are at.

We especially appreciated the strengths-based lens that Dr. Kamins taught and exemplified in his interactions with our cohort. He epitomizes lifelong learning and his care and regard for our development as future psychologists made his series so meaningful and left an indelible mark. 

The intern class of 2021 thanks Dr. Fernand Lubuguin for his willingness to support and empower us to have difficult conversations, for being a role model to all students and faculty alike, for advocating and challenging systems in order to move toward a more socially just society, and for his dedication to diversity and inclusion in clinical work. We recognize him with the "excellence in training award".

Dr. Rick Kamins has been awarded the Ancora-Imparo Teaching Award for the 2019-20 training year. This is the fourth time he has received this award, and is honored for his highly acclaimed course entitled “Psychotherapy Outcomes.” Interns praise his teaching style as dynamic, engaged, and tailored to the unique training needs of the class.

Audrey Blakeley-Smith, PhD, is the 2018-2019 recipient. She is the training director for the Internship in Clinical Psychology.

Audrey’s nominators for the award say, “She has always had our best interests in mind, has looked out for us, and has ensured that we were receiving the range of experiences we hoped for.”

Dr. Kyle Knierim is the 2017-18 recipient. Dr. Knierim leads the Practice Transformation track within the Psychologist as Leader in Healthcare Series.

Dr. Knierim leveraged his enthusiasm for and commitment to practice transformation to break down a relatively complex set of ideas into concrete, actionable steps that were easily tailored to our own clinical settings.

Dr. Deb Seymour is a second time recipient of the award, having been recognized  during the 2008-2009 training year and again during the 2016-2017 training year. Dr. Seymour is the director of the Psychologist as Educator, Specialized Professional Development Series; serves as an intern advisor; and has been an active contributor to didactics and training.

Dr. Sam Hubley is the recipient of the award for the 2015-2016 year. Dr. Hubley is the director of internship didactics. His overall approach to training has been described by interns as outstanding with his series on professional development and on therapeutic interventions (i.e., motivational interviewing and dialectical behavioral therapy) receiving particular attention.

Dr. Rick Kamins is the recipient of the award for the 2014-2015 year. This is the third time Dr. Kamins has received this award. Dr. Kamin's seminar, titled, Outcome-oriented psychotherapy is a highly regarded eight-week course that reviews the literature on what makes for effective psychotherapy.  His series has received top ratings by interns since its inception.  During his time together with the interns, Dr. Kamins covers the definition of evidence-based treatment—including examples, unifying factors of effective treatment, motivational interviewing, brief therapy principles, positive psychology, stages of change, and the importance of outcome measurement. He supplements his instruction with video clips, case vignettes, personal anecdotes, and role playing. ​
